Day 106 of Firsts: Be the "Ticket Raffle Girl"

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. ~Dr. Seuss
A friend of mine asked me to help out with a fundraising event tonight for Philadelphia's Variety Club. It's a great charity that supports children who are physically or developmentally disabled.

My job? Sell raffle tickets with my friend Loraine Ballard Morrill (Clear Channel Radio).  I didn't know what I was doing. (My first time, of course.)

We were supposed to sell 3 tickets for five dollars, an arm's length for 10 and a whole body length for 20 bucks. Fortunately, NBC 10's Sports Anchor John Clark came to the rescue, all six feet six inches of him.

As soon as we offered up Clark's body as a measurment for tickets, we were in business. (Nobody wanted my shrimpy arm's length of tickets.)

I think we sold a couple hundred dollars worth in about an hour.  Not bad. Good thing there were lots of other people there selling raffle tickets too.

I just want to say thank you to anyone who bought tickets and took pity on my poor sales skills. I met some very generous people tonight. It's nice to know those donations will make a difference in kids lives.
